Description
Hillerich & Bradsby model S2 was likely used by Dwight Evans in 1972 while playing for the Louisville Colonels as the bat was acquired from a seller in Louisville, KY. Goes without saying that this is a very early Evans bat. He made his MLB debut later that season as a September call up with the Boston Red Sox.
Bat shows moderate to heavy use. Numerous ball marks and several seam impressions are visible on the left and right barrel surfaces. Minor swelling on the left barrel from repeated contact. Piece missing from the back barrel approximately 8 inches in length. The handle is not cracked. Some vintage tar build up at the mid-handle. Heavily degraded tape ring that appears to have had a foam core. Majority of the foam is gone, but the tape remains. It no longer fits tight and slides up and down the handle. The only knob marking is the stamped model number (S2). Nothing is written on either end.
