Hillerich & Bradsby model P89XL was used by Ozzie Smith during the 1979 season as a member of the San Diego Padres. The bat shows outstanding use with a handle crack behind the center label and a piece missing from the back barrel. There are mounting holes on the left side of the handle as well as the left side of the barrel. Many ball marks and seam impressions are visible on the front, right, left, and back barrel surfaces. There is significant grain swelling and separation from repeated contact and a 7 1/2″ piece is missing from the back barrel. The handle has traces of pine tar and it is cracked on the backside of the center label. Smith’s #1 is written in black on both the knob and barrel end.
