1981-82 Louisville Slugger Lee May Game Used Bat

In stock

Louisville Slugger model R161 was used by Lee May as a member of the Kansas City Royals in 1981 or 1982. The bat shows outstanding use. Many ball marks and seam impressions are visible on the left barrel surface and there is some grain swelling from repeated contact. The handle has a heavy coat of pine tar and cracks in two places. May’s #14 is written on the knob in black marker. Nothing is written on the barrel end.

Lee May played in both the 1970 and 1979 World Series with the Cincinnati Reds and Baltimore Orioles respectively. He was a key player with the Cincinnati Reds of the late 60s and early 70s. His trade to Houston was instrumental in the continued rise of the Big Red Machine in Cincinnati. The Astros, badly in need of power after finishing last in the NL in home runs in 1971, completed a trade with the Reds on November 29, 1971 that sent second baseman Joe Morgan, pitcher Jack Billingham, infielder Denis Menke, outfielder César Gerónimo and minor leaguer Ed Armbrister for Lee May, second baseman Tommy Helms and utility man Jimmy Stewart.
