Rawlings model 256B was used by Chili Davis with the California Angels in 1989. The bat shows tremendous use. Ball marks, seam impressions, and ink transfers are visible on the front, right, left, and back barrel surfaces. The very hint of grain swelling is present on the right barrel surface. The barrel end has an overrun of what appears to be factory applied finish and it has cracked and chipped around the end. The handle is uncracked with slight staining from use. No notable pine tar present. In addition to the finish being an issue, the knob markings also show a lapse in quality control as the model number (256B) has the ‘B’ reversed. Additional knob markings include the batch code (171), and year code (09) for 1989. Nothing is written on the barrel end.
