Description
Louisville Slugger model B253 was used by Bobby Bonilla with the Chicago White Sox as a rookie during the 1986 season. The bat shows outstanding use with a pair of handle cracks.
Many ball marks and seam impressions are visible on the front, right, left, and back barrel surfaces. Several ink transfers are visible on the left barrel surface. The handle has a pair of cracks with no missing pieces and there is a light coat of pine tar. The handle has a spiral tape job that runs approximately 10″ up from the knob. The tape shows staining from tar and use. His #26 (worn during his rookie season) is written on the knob in black marker. Nothing is on the barrel end.
Bonilla played from 1986 to 2001 with the White Sox, Pirates, Mets, Orioles, Marlins, Dodgers, Braves, and Cardinals. After being traded to the Dodgers part way through the 1998 season, he signed for a second time with the Mets in 1999. When the Mets wanted to release him at the end of the year, he negotiated a settlement whereby they would pay him $1.19 million every year from 2011 through 2035 on July 1. This date has become known in Mets fandom as “Bobby Bonilla Day”.
