Description

Louisville Slugger model S44 was used by Tim Hulett with the Chicago White Sox between 1983 and 1985. The bat shows heavy use with grain separation on the back barrel. It is not cracked.

Many ball marks, seam impressions, and ink transfers are visible on the front, right, left, and back barrel surfaces. There is separation on the back barrel and a section of grain has lifted with a small chip missing. There appears to be a tape line on the barrel, but I don’t believe the barrel was fully taped for batting practice. It appears the tape may have been there at some point just to hold down the loose piece of grain on the backside. Certainly possible that the bat saw some BP use after the split started. The handle has a moderate coat of pine tar and appears to be uncracked. The lower portion of the handle has been shaved for grip. The knob is marked with Hulett’s #32 as well as a smaller “2” that is circled. Also in black marker. Nothing is written on the barrel end.

Hulett was drafted in the 1978 Major League Baseball Draft out of Lanphier High School but did not sign. Hulett played for the South Florida Bulls baseball team in 1979 before transferring to Miami Dade College’s North Campus.

Hulett was picked in the secondary phase of the 1980 free agent draft by the Chicago White Sox and signed in June 1980. He made it to the major leagues with the White Sox in 1983, was traded to the Montreal Expos organization in 1988, and played in the major leagues with the Baltimore Orioles and St. Louis Cardinals before retiring in 1995.
