Description

Louisville Slugger model C353 was produced for use by Ryan Zimmerman with the Washington Nationals during the 2012 season. The bat shows outstanding use with a handle crack. Many ball marks, seam impressions, and ink transfers are visible on the front, right, left, and back barrel surfaces. The barrel also has many cleat marks covering the barrel. The handle has a light coat of pine tar below the center label with some transfer to the lower handle. It is cracked. The knob is stamped with the date of production (01/17/12), length & weight (34.5/33.5), and wood type designation (LDM X). Zimmerman’s #11 is written in his style on both ends.

Unfortunately the use characteristics are not consistent with use by Zimmerman. The presence of the cleat marks, while not an automatic disqualifier, do not appear consistent with other known good Zimmerman bats. It is both the aggressive nature of the cleat marks as well as the sheer amount of cleat marks and shoe scuffs that render them a negative characteristic against use by Ryan Zimmerman.

Additionally, the lack of a moderate to heavy band of pine tar at and below the center label is a concern. In looking over numerous images of Zimmerman batting during the 2012 season the band of nearly light rose colored pine tar or even slightly darker tar at times is a constant with his bats. Even when the pine tar was light, it was still a consistent band below the center label that grew more as the use continued.

In summary, the use of this bat by Ryan Zimmerman is not confirmed. Included Hall of Fame Bats LOA will note inconsistencies in use characteristics. Bat is priced accordingly for what it is.
